The math

What your mod costs you, in dollars

Your X-Mod multiplies your workers’ comp premium. A 1.00 is average for your trade and size. A 1.30 means you pay about 30% more than an average contractor with the same payroll, and a 0.85 means about 15% less.

Because each mod uses three years of claims, one bad year keeps costing you for three renewals. Enter your numbers to see it. (No mod handy? Your carrier or broker can tell you, or ask us in your free check.)

What IzzyMod includes

We work your mod from every side

Claim & reserve reviews

Open claims count at the carrier’s reserve until they close. We review every one with the adjuster before your carrier reports claim values to the WCIRB.

Worksheet audits

We check your WCIRB rating worksheet for wrong class codes, payroll or claims charged to the wrong policy, and file a dispute when something’s off.

Claims coordination

We stay on your claims with the carrier: status checks, subrogation on claims someone else caused, and pushing to close what’s done.

Return-to-work help

A modified-duty policy, ready-to-use light-duty offer letters and a check-in log, so injured workers get back sooner and claims stay smaller.

Safety & loss control

An IIPP builder, weekly toolbox talks, and help setting up your carrier’s loss-control visit and a free Cal/OSHA consultation.

Alerts & remarketing

We hear the day the WCIRB publishes your new mod and explain it, and we shop your renewal when it makes sense for you.

Common questions

X-Mods, answered

What is an X-Mod?
Your experience modification (X-Mod) compares your workers’ comp claims over the last three policy years with what’s expected for a contractor of your trade and size. The WCIRB publishes it, and your carrier multiplies your premium by it. A 1.00 is average, above 1.00 costs more, and below 1.00 costs less.
Does every contractor have one?
No. The WCIRB rates employers once their payroll passes a minimum size. Below that you pay standard rates with no mod. Once you’re rated, your first mod looks back at the last three policy years of claims.
Can my mod actually go down?
Often, yes. Open claims count at the carrier’s reserve until they close, so reserves brought in line before your carrier reports claim values can lower your next mod. Worksheet errors can be corrected. And fewer, smaller claims going forward bring it down over time. No one can promise a specific mod, but there’s usually room to improve.
What does IzzyMod cost?
IzzyMod is included for Insureaze workers’ comp clients. The IzzyMod Check is free for any California contractor, and you don’t have to switch brokers to get one.
What do you need from me?
Your business name and contact details are enough to start. With your OK, we can also request your rating worksheet from the WCIRB and your loss runs from your carrier, which show exactly which claims are driving your mod.
